LO2: Make up trial
We then did another test run in College and were quite happy with the results. We then showed the Band a picture and they were also happy. The band then gave us permission to buy make up for them and we bought a mix of foundations and white/silver hairspray totalling at the price of £15. The band arranged their own costumes and I brought some props with me such as a walking stick, glasses, a straw trilby and tweed flat cap and other little props we could use from the nursing home like the Zimmer frame.
This was the video we used for inspiration for the make up on how to make people look a older through the power of make up. We used this video when practising in college and on each other.
This was the costumes the band had chosen to wear as this is how they think they would look in their old age.
The venue was also well kitted as it was an old peoples home as we were aloud to use the living room area, they had props already and the band also brought glasses and walking sticks etc. The costumes and props worked really well to create a believable verisimilitude. To increase the continuity of the Video the band wore the same costume on both filming dates, so we had a sense of continuity.
For the nurses costumes we also had been watching the series of Derek for inspiration, we also used the programme for inspiration on props and things we would need to make the scene believable.

This was the costumes for the nurse and the two people used for the nurses within the music video, as the costumes were similar to those we had seen on the programme Derek, so we took inspiration from that. We asked them to wear plain clothing and I brought with me two aprons that Isabelle's mum to borrow from work. The aprons had logos on them that I hadn't noticed prior so we politely asked the supervisor at the home if we could borrow some and they were more than happy to oblige, so it looked like they were actually part of the nursing staff.
This was the car the band had borrowed from one of their friends, for filming of the music video. As we needed the band to get from A to B so needed some sort of transport and this car really fit in well with the sort of feel of the video.

LO1: Katy perry - Thinking of you analysis
Purpose & form:
The purpose of this is to entertain to keep the viewer interested so that they keep listening/watching, this is mainly because it is in the form of a music video as this is to keep people interested in the music video.
Content and meaning:
The content of the music video starts with a fade in shot of Katy's high heels scattered on the floor, this shows the audience the focus point. The colours and mise-en-scene was very natural throughout the video with various costumes. They use dull colours such as black and brown which is shown in the males clothes and the funeral and upsetting scenes where as in the happier and the clothes of the female lead there is brightly coloured clothes and scene to show the audience the difference in the atmosphere and the mood of each scene shown within the music video. The black colour used for when the female is about to attend the soldiers funeral Connotes the idea of the death of the soldier. The fact that her clothing when with her new lover is black could connote the fact that she is not happy with him because she is in fact grieving over the soldier still as she is not over him. The fact that she is wearing red lipstick while she is dressed all in black connotes the love she still has for the soldier and could also possibly connote the fact of him dying at war. Within the first 30 seconds of the video it shows that the female lead is shown to be missing someone she was once close to. This is shown by the facts that she's clasping the necklace around her neck in deep though with her eyes closed which is shown in a close up side shot of her face/neck and the fact that she the pulls out a picture of a male in a soldiers uniform this shows that the person she is missing is the person in the photograph. The story of the music video is about a couple town apart by war and shows the female in the video to not feel right with her new lover as she is still 'thinking of you' and lyrics such as 'i guess second best is all i will know' create anchorage within this. The video shows the female regretting her choice in trying to move on to her new lover which is shown by a long shot of her putting her head in her alms showing regret. The music video shows past and present insights into the females life and her feelings throughout it which is shown by the colours and close ups of her emotions within the video. The past footage is shown when the lyrics 'thinking of you' are such which then cut to a flashback of a previous memory of the soldier and herself together, showing that's who she's thinking of. This happens a lot in the music video when she is with her new lover, it keeps cutting back to the flashbacks of her and her past love. During the music from the time frame 1:30 it shows Katy peering out the window to then see past memories of her and her past lover. Showing again that is what she is thinking about rather than her now lover, this shows the audience her feelings and emotions towards both of the males. The fact that when she's thinking of these memories it shows them as if they're happening at the time show, shows that she wants those memories back, this is also shown by her hand gesture on the window pane clasping it as if she's angry at herself for letting him go.
During the music video there are plenty of close up's in the video but she never actually looks right into the camera which again gives the video a natural look and never actually breaks the fourth wall, so it's just telling a narrative story of the soldier the female and the new love of the female.
During the flashback of the female and the soldier the soldier appear to be wearing a yellow shirt which could connote the idea of the joy and happiness the couple have together. The fact that the editing is done so that it goes from natural colours to show the sad times to bright colors of costumes and scenery to show when she is happy is quite clever.
Shot: Mid shotEffect/edit: Cut to next shot,
The colours in this shot have a lot of meaning, as the girl is seen to be wearing red which connotes love and passion where as the male is seen to be wearing yellow which connotes joy and excitement which shows the fact she seems happier with the man she was with before.
Genre: This music video is generally shown as the genre of pop as a pop music video usually contains either a story and/or contains elements of the singer performing. This music video however contains both although Katy is playing a character there is also shots shown of her singing/performing the song in between.
Audience: the music is mainly targeted at Katy Perry fans pretty much because it is a Katy Perry song.
LO1 - Madness: House of fun - Music analysis
I think this video is similar to the video we want to create as in the description of the video it states that they are 'acting out their coming of age in true madness style' this shows it's the bands way of coming to terms with the fact that they are not as young as most bands, which is the sort of thing we are going for.
Purpose & Meaning:
The purpose of the video is to entertain and have fun during filming, and to promote the song house of fun within the form of music video, so that it has audio as well as visual. This is a music video that I think is closely similar to what our aim of music video is. The video includes performance with lip-syncing and instruments such as the saxophone which allows them to have fun jumping around.
Content & Meaning:
The content in the video has scenes from many locations, such as a fairground, a chemists shop and a liquor store. Madness nearly always use a variety of different locations and strong colours in their videos, with House Of Fun being the best example. The lighting in the video is bright to reflect the strong colours. The Mise-en-scene of this video is several locations throughout with places like a fairground, a chemists shop and a liquor store, which gives the video a good verisimilitude as the setting look really realistic in these sort of settings. The lighting in the video is bright to reflect the strong colours used within the video for such as the costumes on them when they are dressed up as old people in the chemist or in suits on the rollercoaster, with the brightly coloured clown. This music video by madness as to be the best example for them pretty much always using bright colours in their music videos this could be to do with the fact that they are a lot of fun. The camerawork in the video is very shaky and unstable at points which gives of the meaning of it being a mess a round , like it's being recorded on low budget, however there is numerous clever camera shots within the video. Such as close ups, high angle shots, low angle shots, mid shots and long shots etc.
The close ups in the video show the details on the singers face, this is shown quite a lot with the man at the till allowing us to feel close to the character on screen as in reality we hardly let anyone that close to our face so its sort of like they are trusting you and allowing you to get into the mind of the character, so for example in this shot you see a close up of the man at the till (shown to the left). This also looks like he is looking directly at you so it looks like he is talking to you.
This shot shows three of the band members dressed up as old woman dancing around the chemist. This long shot doesn't clearly show the band members faces so this shot is not a full shot but it is also known as a three shot as there is three members in shot.
This shot is outside the location where they was filming and is shown to be a dispensing chemist, this helps the fact that they are playing on their age as, as you age you tend to be on more medications. This is a mid shot from the video showing all the members of the band as well as a clown. They are seen to be all wearing suits this could connote formal, power or mystery.
Audience: The target audience of this music video would either be young people, or people of a similar age to the group as they will be able to understand the video as they are going through their coming of age, which people of a similar age can relate to, however it can also be aimed at a younger audience as it uses right colours and is rather fun and vibrant.
Genre: Is a music video is in the genre of ska/pop, which is the same as the music within the video.
